HOLBROOK - Miss Jacqueline "Jackie" Stark, 79, of the Sunrise of Holbrook Assisted Living in Holbrook, died Sunday (April 16, 2023) after a long illness.

Born May 16, 1943, in Salamanca, she was the only child of the late Howard W. Stark and Mary Frances Murray Stark.

She was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1961. Jackie then received a BS in physical education from SUNY Brockport in 1965 and relocated to Long Island, where she spent the rest of her life.

Miss Stark was a longtime PE teacher for the Brentwood Union Free School District in Brentwood, Long Island, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of the Infant Jesus RC Church in Port Jefferson.

She was a longtime season ticket holder for the New York Jets when they played at Shea Stadium in Queens. After the Jets moved to New Jersey, she gave up the tickets because of the difficulty of traveling to the stadium. She remained a lifelong Jets fan to the dismay of her upstate, Bills-loving cousins.

There was always a dog or two in her residence, usually coming from a local shelter. She contributed to the Best Friends Animal Society along with other shelters.

Jackie enjoyed dining and attending Broadway shows. Her travels included France and Switzerland. After her mother passed away, she traveled cross-country with her father.

Surviving are first cousins, R. David (Carol O'Brien) Stark Jr. of Great Valley, Beth (Joe) Riethmiller and Terry (Chris) Stark, both of Salamanca, Molly (Dennis) Brown and Howard R. Stark, both of Port Charlotte, Fla.; her first godchild, Jennifer L. Stark Horning of Land O Lakes, Fla.; and many good friends, including Mrs. June Cardenas of Long Island.

She was predeceased by two cousins, Jeff (Mary Jo) Stark and Thomas Stark; and her longtime friend, Maureen Staley.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, at the convenience of the family.
