Mr. John “Jack” Cooney, age 65, of River Street, Salamanca, New York died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his home.

Born on September 24, 1943 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Donald & Betty Straubing Cooney. He was married to the former Christine Parker who survives.

He was a graduate of Salamanca High School.

Mr. Cooney was employed as a Union Carpenter Local #66, Olean, New York prior to his retirement.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club, the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535, and the former BPO Elks Lodge #1025. He enjoyed music.

Surviving are: 3 daughters, Tina (Chad) Robbins, Lockport, New York, Tracy (Lee) Schmidt, Pendleton, New York, Patti Cooney (Josh), Olean, New York; 2 sons, Michael (Valerie) Cooney, Pendleton, New York, David Cooney, Tonawanda, New York; 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Donald (Kay) Cooney, Olean, New York, Richard (Bobbi) Cooney, Santa Barbara, California; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Karen Ann Cooney.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held in the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. with Deacon Don Radlinski of St. Patrick’s Church, Limestone, New York officiating.
