Daniel Barnes
1940 - 2016
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Dr. Daniel R. Barnes, professor of English and folklore at Ohio State University, died Sunday (April 3, 2016). Born May 16, 1940, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, musician, teacher, and friend.
He graduated Class of 1958 from Salamanca High School, St. Bonaventure University with a bachelor's degree, the University of Kansas with a master's degree and the University of Kentucky with a doctorate degree.
Dan spent most of his professional career at Ohio State. He also held several visiting positions both in the United States and Europe, including Oberlin, Oxford and a number of Scandinavian universities while on a sabbatical.
He is survived by his wife, Holly; a brother, Ron; a sister, Peg Karsick; along with his daughter, Katie, son, Peter, and their families, and daughters Emily and Jocelyn.
A life celebration for Dan will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016, the day before his birthday, in Ohio.
