Daniel Jerome Haley
1943 - 2018

HAINES CITY, Fla. - Daniel Jerome "Jerry" Haley, 75, of Haines City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 13, 2018, after succumbing to pancreatic cancer. His firm belief in Jesus gave him peace at his passing, and he was surrounded by loved ones.

Jerry was born Jan. 15, 1943, in Salamanca, N.Y., to the late John "Jack" Haley and the late Bertha Rockwell Haley.

He attended Salamanca High School, where he lettered in baseball and wrestling. Jerry attended Jamestown Community College and St. Bonaventure University.

Jerry excelled in sports his whole life, especially in baseball, pool, bowling and golf. He played baseball for the American Legion and tried out for the New York Yankees. Of all the sports, golf was his passion. He was thrilled to get his first hole-in-one this year.

Jerry had a strong work ethic which he passed down to his children. He worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, Fancher Furniture, Olean Medical Group and Mercy Hospital in Ohio. He worked even after retiring as hospital MIS director as a tour bus driver and as security for the Orlando Convention Center.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lake Alfred, and often volunteered at the food pantry. Jerry was an avid reader. He loved to spend time with his family camping, fishing, sitting around the fire, playing cards, cribbage and other games, cooking and telling stories. He had a huge loving heart.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Carol Shindledecker; and their daughter, Kim McNerney of Perrysburg, Ohio; and his two daughters from his first wife, the late Nancy DeGroat Haley, Tamara (Michael) Thompson of Bluffton, S.C., and Karen (Richard) Bell of Moon Township, Pa. He is also survived by his stepsons, Christopher (Rebecca) Chamberlain of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, and Lee (Heather) Chamberlain of Urbana, Ohio. Jerry was a loving grandfather to fifteen grandchildren. Also surviving Jerry are his siblings, Diane (Butsy) DeBoy of Ocala, Raymond (Mary) Haley Sr. of Carrollton, N.Y., Kathleen Haley of Ocala, John Haley Jr. of Salamanca, Jeffrey (Diana) Haley of Killbuck, N.Y., Jay (Linda) Haley of Fredericksburg, Va., and James (Ginger) Haley of Little Valley, N.Y.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 25, 2019, in Salamanca, at the Center Street Baptist Church, located at 443 Center St., with a reception following at the American Legion, located at 67 Wildwood Ave.

We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
