Anson Alverson

Anson was born on 17 Sep 1832 in Gerry, Chautauqua, New York. He died on 23 May 1919. He married Melissa E. Ackley on 26 Apr 1852. They had six children: Rollin Augustus Alverson, Mary Urusla Alverson, Corlin Esther Alverson, George Emera Alverson, Nathan Anson Alverson, and Chanley Wilbur Alverson.

Anson was an abolitionist. He went with father-in-law, Ira W. Ackley, to Kansas in 1854 to help prevent the spread of slavery. He was one of the 103 founders of Lawrence, Kansas. He served in the Civil War. In Jul 1861, he enlisted in Company A, 64th New York volunteers. He was promoted to Sergeant on 10 Apr 1862 at the Seige of Yorktown. He was discharged on a disability on 23 Feb 1863.

He lived an interesting and full life. He worked in the oil fields in Pennsylvania. And, served as road commissoner in Albion, New York and built the first iron bridge there.
