Luther L. Albrecht, age 79, of Perrysburg, NY and Bonita Springs, FL passed away late Wednesday afternoon April 17, 2024 at home in Florida, with his wife Ann and son Brian at his side.
Luther was born in Silver Creek on Janurary 15, 1945, the son of Charles and Lillian (Merrill) Albrecht. He was a United States Navy veteran during the Vietnam War, serving from 1962-1967.
A plant utility engineer, Luther retired with 27 years of state service, most of the time working at the J.N. Adam Developmental Center.
He married Ann Marie (Sarney) VanVleck on August 2, 2003; Ann survives. Ann and Luther enjoyed their winters in Florida.
Luther was an active and dedicated member of the Legion/VFW Color Guard in New York. He was a life member of the James Cruden VFW Post 5007 and American Legion Post 409, both of Gowanda; and Bonita Springs Moose. He also was Past Chief of the Perrysburg Fire Company and Past President of the Perrysburg Conservation Club.
After retiring, Luther enjoyed his trips to Florida with Ann. He also loved farming, grape picking and being a beekeeper.
Besides his wife, Ann, Luther is survived by his son, Brian (Kim) Albrecht; a sister, JoyAnn (Tony) Kota; nieces, Melissa(William) Tighe and Mindy Harris; great-niece, Riley Ann; great-nephew, William Tighe; stepchildren, Suzy (Ted) Bogue, Rich (Lauri) Kota and Jamie (Jennifer) Kota; along with many grandchildren, including stepgrandchildren Andrea and Louis. He was preceded in death by brother, Dennis.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 1 at 2:00 PM at the James Cruden VFW Post 5007, 20 Sand Hill Road in Gowanda (please assemble at the post).
