Alex E. Hedges Sr.
1956 - 2014

Alex E. Hedges Sr. of West Main Street, Gowanda passed away unexpectedly at home Monday January 27, 2014, three days after his birthday. He was 58

He was born in Springville on Jan. 24, 1956, the son of the late Richard and Ruth (Schiedlel) Hedges.

Alex was a US Navy veteran and an active member of the Gowanda American Legion Post 409. He had served on the post's honor guard for several years.

A New York State retiree, Alex worked for the New York State Dept. of Corrections at Collins. His state service spanned more than 30 years. He retired as a Food Administrator for the Collins Correctional Facility.

Survivors include two daughters, Dawn (Erica) Edbauer of Kenmore, Danielle (Chad) Marx of Dunkirk; two sons, Alex E. Hedges Jr. of Gowanda and Richard Hedges of Perrysburg. He was grandfather to Camden Marx and brother to Linda (Ted) Hapak of Gowanda and Judy (Dennis) Otto of Springville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents; his father Richard passed away Nov. 3, 2006 and his mother Ruth passed the following day, Nov. 4,2006.

Friends may call at the Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda, NY (716) 532-4200 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday where funeral services will be held Friday Jan. 31, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home with full military honors. Interment to follow in the Jolls Cemetery.
