Harold R.H. Ebert
1931- 2016
Harold R.H. Ebert of Broadway Road, Gowanda passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY at the age of 84. Born May 21, 1931 in Mansfield, NY, he was one of 14 children born to Charles and Estelle (Tennies) Ebert.
Harold married the former Ruth Davis in Washington, DC on January 19, 1952. Ruth passed away November 4, 2005.
A veteran, Harold honorably served with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 409 and the James Cruden VFW Post 5007, serving on the Funeral Detail/Honor Guard for many years. Harold was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, and of the Slovenian Club. He worked as a business officer for the Gowanda Central School District, and prior to that, worked in the business office for the former Brown Group (Moench Tanning) in Gowanda. He also worked as a business advisor for the village of Gowanda back in the '90s.
Survivors include two sons, Harold "Mike" (Cindy) Ebert of Cattaraugus and David (Denise) Ebert of Perrysburg; seven grandchildren, Andrea Jensen, Crystal Phillips, Tara Bowen, Tiffany Barclift, Mandy Tomczak and Dylan and Megan Ebert; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry (Sheila) Ebert of Allegany, Sylvester "Tutter" (Vivian) Ebert of Bluffton, SC and Alfred (Jean) Ebert of Pensacola, FL; a sister, Beatrice Martinez of Alexandria, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Harold was preceded in death by six brothers, Clair, Irving, Carl, Howard, Marshall and Allen Ebert; along with three sisters, June Dunkleman, Alice Spangles and Celeste Ebert.
Friends may call at the Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda (716) 532-4200 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, where funeral services with full Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 11 a.m. Interment in the Jolls Cemetery.
