John R. Haglund, 77, of Venice, FL., passed away on May 20, 2023, at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, FL., after a short illness.

John was born on June 14, 1945, in Olean to John P. and Myrtle G. Davis Haglund.

John was a 1963 graduate of Olean High School and continued his education at the Olean Business Institute in 1964, and Powelson Business Institute in Syracuse in 1965. December 28, 1965, John enlisted in the US Navy; training at Great Lakes, IL., and later stationed at Boston, MA., Newport, RI., with his final year in Vietnam. John left the service as a Navy Petty Officer, Second Class on August 27, 1969.

After serving his country, John attended St. Bonaventure University to earn his B.S in Business Administration in 1973, beginning his career with the Combustion Engineering Corp. at Stanford, CT., later Cleveland, OH., and Chicago, IL. John retired in 2006 to Venice, FL.

John enjoyed golfing during the warm Florida winters and traveling North in the summer to visit his lifelong friends in Olean and Chicago. A sports enthusiast, John was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bucs, Tampa Rays, the PGA tour, Major League Baseball, and the National Basketball League

John is survived by two sisters: Sharon A. Haglund of Venice, FL., and Ann Marie (Rick) Bauer of Arcadia, FL.

Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 1:30pm-3:30pm at which time services will be held where Rev. Gerald C. Piper will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
