Olean- Elaine P. Baker, of 120 N. 21st Street, Olean, passed away peacefully Wednesday (September 27, 2023) after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 17, 1945, in Olean, she was the daughter of Albert and Anna Banka Padlo. On August 21, 1965, at the former Transfiguration Church in Olean, she married Jon K. Baker, who survives.

Elaine was a graduate of Olean High School, Class of 1962. She first worked for the Exchange National Bank and later as a keyboard specialist for the Olean Middle School, retiring in 2000.

Faith, family, and friends were the most essential aspects of Elaine’s life, especially family. She loved supporting her children and grandchildren at their sporting events and was a longtime Olean High School Huskies Fan. Elaine was also a devout Catholic, a parishioner at the former Transfiguration Church, and a current parishioner of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. She will be remembered for her kindness, caring personality, and strength.

In addition to her loving husband of 58 years, Elaine is survived by two daughters; Kristine (Michael) Bates and Kathleen (Gregory) Gibbons, both of Olean; her grandchildren, Karolyn (Andrew) Carlson of Gibsonia, PA, Nicholas, Jacob, Samantha, and Jolyn Gibbons, Thomas and Anna Bates, all of Olean; and four great-grandchildren, Jack, Ally, Luke, Riley Carlson; one sister, Jeanette Melnyk; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by; her parents and two brothers, Michael Stavish and John T. Padlo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (October 7, 2023) at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. Private burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olean Sports Booster Club C/O Kathleen Gibbons, 120 N. 21st Street, Olean, NY 14760, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
