Olean – Clarence D. "C.D." Shorter, a resident of the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Olean Campus, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 7, 2006. Born in Olean on October 2, 1941 he was a son of Clarence F. and Edith Ruth Jones Shorter. Mr. Shorter served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 through 1971.
He was employed at Bowlean Bowling Alley, Market Basket and as security guard for Burns Security at Dresser Rand. He was later employed as a security attendant at Community Bank, N.A. where he retired due to his health. Mr. Shorter was an avid bowler and enjoyed singing. He was an active member of the Pines resident council where he served as treasurer. He was a 35 year member of Sacred Temple Church of God in Christ where he served as deacon of the church.
He is survived by four brothers John (Vera) Hart of Hanford CA, James Hart of Olean, Darryl (!LaFonda) Hart of Strasburg PA and Gerald (Janet) Shorter of Olean; two sisters Mary Hemphill and Linda !McClain, both of Olean and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother Robert Shorter and two sisters Evelyn Bird and Laura Hilliker.
Friends will be received today (Thursday February 9, 2006) at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean from 7-9 PM and on Friday (Feb. 10, 2006) from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral and committal services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday (Feb. 11) at 1:00 PM. Rev Gerald Slack, pastor of Sacred Temple Church of God In Christ will officiate and Rev. Stanley Parks, pastor of Mt. Zion Christian Assembly will co-officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Veteran's field of Honor, Olean. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center.
