Dansville - Kay Rose Wood, age 77 of Dansville, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, February 4, 2021.
Mrs. Wood was born in Olean NY on March 22, 1943 to the late Robert Leo & Anne Eleanor (Pylipow) Nutt.
Mrs. Wood was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Angels Church. She graduated from Olean High School in 1961 and from Ithaca College with a degree in physical education in 1965. She completed her grad work in science at SUNY Geneseo during the 1970s. Mrs. Wood taught physical education at Dansville Central School from 1965-1967; she then taught middle school science and biology at Cohocton Central School from 1967 until the Wayland-Cohocton merger in 1993. While at Cohocton, Mrs. Wood served as an officer of the Cohocton Teacher's Association for several years, advisor of several classes and activities and was an annual worker from the onset of Fall Foliage Festival and the Cohocton Sports Complex. Mrs. Wood served on the Board of Directors of the Cohocton Red Wings Northeastern Collegiate Baseball League during the 1980s. Mrs. Wood finished her 32-year teaching career at Wayland-Cohocton Central School from 1993 until her retirement in 1998.
Mrs. Wood always enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting and four-wheeling. She was a lover of nature and animals and enjoyed gardening. Mrs. Wood married her high school sweetheart, Robert F. Wood on August 20, 1966, who predeceased her in 2012.
Mrs. Wood is also predeceased by her sister, Thalia Cooper in 2018 and her daughter-in-law, Kerry Ann Wood in 2019. Mrs. Wood is survived by her sons: Michael J. (Elizabeth) Wood & Brian R. Wood; her grandchildren: Bradley, Madison, & Briley; step-grandchildren: Devin, Gabrielle & Lillia Anderson; her sister: Susan Nutt of Niagara Falls NY; her brother and sister-in-laws: Bill (Della) Wood of Avon NY & John (Sharon) Wood of Gasport NY; and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Friends are invited to call from 4-7 on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main Street, Dansville. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. A link will be provided that you can livestream the Mass as attendance is limited to immediate family only. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Social distancing, facial coverings, and no-contact policies will be in effect at the funeral home and at church. At the funeral home, please enter through the side door under the portico and exit through the front door.
