Marianne Scott
1943 - 2017

SARATOGA SPRINGS - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Marianne Scott, who left us peacefully after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's on Saturday (July 22, 2017).

Born Marianne Chevassu on March 23, 1943, to the late William E. and Betty J. Chevassu, Marianne grew up in Olean and attended Olean High School. It was where she met the love of her life and husband of 52 years, Walter Roy Scott.

Marianne graduated from Fredonia College with a teaching degree and spent the next 36 years of her life following her passion and teaching both elementary and middle school math. She taught at Brandywine and Elmer Elementary Schools and Oneida Middle School in Schenectady; Mattacheese Middle School in Yarmouth, Mass.; and Iroquois Middle School in Niskayuna.

Marianne retired in 2003 to spend more time with her greatest joy in life, her grandchildren, Graham, Rosie and Lilli. She and Roy traveled across the U.S. and Europe together with friends and enjoyed many winters in Fort Meyers, Florida, and happy memories in Cape Cod and St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

The best times for Marianne were when she was surrounded by her family and close friends cooking, gardening, or relaxing on a sandy beach. She will always be remembered as a dedicated and devoted teacher, a generous and caring friend, and the best wife, mom and Amma to her family.

Marianne is survived by her beloved husband, Walter Roy Scott of Saratoga Springs; son, Steven Scott (Thomas Carney); daughter-in-law, Lisa (Yunick) Scott; daughter, Traci (David) Jersen ; and grandchildren, Graham and Rosie Scott and Lillian Jersen; sister, Jeanne (John) Pfeiffer of Olean; and many nieces and nephews

.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday (July 27, 2016) with a visitation hour at 10 a.m. and a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 624 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Marianne's honor to the SICM Free Summer Meals Program for Children in Schenectady and to The Community Hospice of Saratoga.

The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at the Wesley Health Care Center, The Community Hospice of Saratoga and the many friends who helped her with love, friendship and laughter during her journey.

Online remembrances may be made at burkefuneralhome.com.
