OLEAN - Bonnie L. Veno, of Olean, passed away Thursday (Jan. 2, 2014) at the home of her daughter with her loving children by her side.

Born Jan. 25, 1943, in Olean, she was the daughter of Carl and Janet Conrad Genberg. On March 13, 1965, in Tampa, Fla., she married Anthony S. "Lubean" Veno, who predeceased her Aug. 6, 2009.

Mrs. Veno graduated from the Rochester Business Institute in 1961 and began employment with the Prudential Insurance Co., first in Olean and then in Tampa, from 1962 to 1965. After her marriage she worked at the Olean High School cafeteria from 1972 until 1980, and then returned to work for Prudential Insurance Co. from 1980 until her formal retirement in 1994. She also served as a city of Olean alderman from 1991 to 1994. She later worked part time for the former Enchanted Garden Flower Shop, and most recently as a receptionist for the Cattaraugus-Wyoming Counties Project Head Start.

She was a member of St. John's Church and belonged to the Happy Hookers Knitting Group, the Red Hottie Hatter's, the Coaster's Senior Group and the Classy Ladies Group.

Surviving are four children, Kim (David) Blatchley of Olean, Tracy (Victoria Muniga) Veno, Christine (Christopher) Flicker of Olean and Thomas (Jami Viglietta) Veno of Olean; eight grandchildren, Sophia Veno, Nathan (Andrea Batesky) Veno, Jordan Flicker, Meghan Veno, Nicholas Veno, Luke Veno, Jason (Heidi Pugrant) Blatchley and Jessica Blatchley; five great-grandchildren, Connor Valenti, Cole Blatchley, Brielle Blatchley, Emma Veno and Madelyn Veno; a sister, Carla (Lloyd) Nelson of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Gary Genberg of Ocala, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Her family will miss her dearly as will her many close friends.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean. A prayer service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday (Jan. 6, 2014) in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. John's Church. Monsignor William Wangler will be the celebrant in the absence of the Rev. Edward Sheedy. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
