OLEAN - Dominic Martel, of Prince Street, Olean, passed away Saturday (June 11, 2016) in the Olean General Hospital, after a long illness.
Born Sept. 21, 1941, in Olean, the son of the late Richard D. and Yolanda Ginco Martel. On May 21, 1965, in Transfiguration Church, he married the former Ann M. Loskey, who survives.
Sonny was a graduate of Olean High School, Class of 1959. He served as a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959 to 1965. He was employed at the ReHabilitation Center for 26 years until his retirement.
Dominic was a current member of St. John's Church and former member of Transfiguration Church. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing and bowling.
In addition to his wife, Ann, he is survived by two sons, Robert (Diane) Martel of Milltown, N.J., and Michael (Kathleen) Martel of Olean; three grandchildren, Nicholas Martel, Benjamin Martel and Elisamaria Martel; and many cousins.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Funeral services will be held Thursday (June 16, 2016) beginning with a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John's Church at 11 a.m. The Rev. Edward Sheedy, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. A Scripture wake service will be held in the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
