Olean, NY Anne Farrell Straight of 215 N. 13th St. died from complications following surgery on Thursday (March 2, 2017) with family members by her side. She had battled life-long cardiac conditions.

Born April 16, 1941 in Olean she was the daughter of Leo and Ida Hamilton Farrell. On October 14, 1961 at the former People's Methodist Church in Olean she married Steven "Jim" Straight who survives.

Anne was a 1959 graduate of Olean High School and in 1961 she graduated from Alfred Technical School. She had been employed as a medical technologist at the former St. Francis Hospital, the Olean Medical Group and Olean General Hospital.

For ten years she volunteered for St. Francis Hospital and was a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross, serving in several positions as instructor of first aid and CPR and for local bloodmobile drives. She served as a representative of annual American Heart Association fundraisers. She served as a Cub Scout den mother for several years and volunteered as a neighborhood coordinator for various national charity organizations.

Anne was particularly interested in wildlife birds, animals, and generally loved rural settings. She especially loved facilitating Bluebird nesting.

Surviving besides her husband are 2 sons Douglas James Straight of Olean and David Mark (Michele) Straight of Johnson City; a granddaughter Danielle Straight; a brother John (Patti) Farrell of Vestal and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 1-4pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Visitation will continue on Monday (March 6, 2017) from 10am to 11am at the funeral home where services will be held at 11am. Burial will follow in Allegany Cemetery.
