Class of '58
Katherine E Heaton
1940 - 2024

Katherine Elizabeth “Kay” (Van Zile) Heaton passed away August 26th, 2024 at the age of 84.

Born in Shinglehouse, PA on April 20, 1940 as the third of five children to (deceased) Leon and Laura Van Zile, Kay grew up in Olean, New York where she graduated from Olean High School in 1958. She married and had four children before moving to Redlands, CA where she raised her kids. In Redlands, she eventually met, and later married Charles “Chuck” Warren Heaton where they resided together happily until he died. After Chuck’s passing, she moved to Flower Mound, TX where she held several office manager positions, was involved in community activities, and led numerous Women’s Bible Studies. She was deeply involved in her church activities, touching the lives of many. She had a very kind spirit, always assuming the best in everyone, and set a wonderful example of following Jesus, and of loving others. She loved taking walks in nature. Kay was very inspirational, and will be greatly missed by many.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, and her sister Mary Lou (Van Zile) McElwee. She is survived by her sisters Patricia “Patti” (Van Zile) Stokes, and Dorotha “Dotti” (Van Zile) Putnam; her brother Rev. James “Jim” Van Zile; her sons Michael “Mike” Miller, and Steven “Steve” Miller; her daughters Elizabeth “Beth” (Miller) Ruef and Amy Miller; five granddaughters, Jackie, Hillary, Shannon, Rhiannon, and Sheradyn; one grandson, Alex; and her one great-grandson, Teddy.
