OLEAN - William T. "Doc" Hoffman, 72, of 1677 Haskell Parkway, died suddenly Thursday (Dec. 27, 2012) shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.

Born June 18, 1940, in Olean, he was one of 13 children born to Albert and Rhea Thorn Hoffman. On Jan. 23, 1965, at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean, he married Marjorie Adams, who survives.

Mr. Hoffman was a 1958 graduate of Olean High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. He had been a member of the Plumber's and Pipefitter's Union Local 22 for 40 years, retiring in June 2002.

He was a member of the Allegany American Legion Post 892, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years. At home, he was the most special "Poppy" to all his grandchildren, where he enjoyed playing with them as well as cooking and baking for the whole family.

Surviving besides his wife are five children, William T. Hoffman of Syracuse, Terrance A. Hoffman of Buffalo, Julie A. (John) Hall of Allegany, Daniel T. (Lori Embt) Hoffman of Varysburg and Stacy L. (Shawn) Brushingham of Olean; nine grandchildren, Billy and Jason Hoffman, Adam and Emma Hall, Kaylea and Emma Hoffman and Bailey, Lucas and Ellie Brushingham; six brothers and sisters, Eleanor Kolasinski of Olean, Rhea Scicchitano of Olean, Beverly (Walter) Barton of Zephyr Hills, Fla., James (Sylvia) Hoffman of Allegany, Richard Hoffman of Pompano Beach, Fla., and John (Joanne) Hoffman of Olean; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by six brothers and sisters, Virginia Hegedus, Alberta Keefe, Albert Hoffman, Wilma Kennedy and Dorothy Kincaid; and an infant brother, Robert Hoffman. Friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean, on Saturday (Jan. 5, 2013) from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a memorial service will be held. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo, 219 Bryant St., Buffalo, NY 14222.
