Kate O'Laughlin This photo is of Kate (Townsell) O'Laughlin who is the ninth child of James Townsell. She was the daughter of two of our New Ireland families that intermarried. It was very common practice for ethnic groups of this period in American History to stay within their own cultural circles.

This is a photo of Mary Ellen (O'Laughlin) Cosgrove, she is the daughter of Kate (Townsell) and Mike O'Laughlin. Mary Ellen's mother is pictured above.

In these photos we are only able to correctly establish the identity of John Towsell Sr. standing to the left. We also know that the lady sitting on the right of the first photo is the same women on the right side in the second photo. From the clothes worn we would surmise this picture was taken sometime between 1890 and the early part of the 20th century.

This is the wedding photo of John V. Townsell Sr. and Ella Nenno. This marriage indicates a break from the tradition of marrying within your nationality as described above.

These photos were provided to us by Teresa Townsell, who is one of the descendants of the original families of New Ireland. Teresa has helped us immensely, she has filled in many missing blanks in our overall picture of New Ireland.
