Artifacts

Artifacts are an important part of gaining insight into the history of any resident population. We have been lucky to find somethings at the New Ireland site. Below you can view what we have found to date.

Recovered plate

To the left, you see a plate and a decorative dish from what we believe to be the Robert Fall foundation site. Take note of the shamrock trim around the edge of the plate. From the pottery mark on the reverse side of the dish we have been able to trace it back to England sometime between 1838 and 1860.

This is what we believe to be a milkpitcher

This is believed to be a milk container which dates to the late 18th century and early 19th century. This can be determined by the style of the handle. It's ornate design also indicates the period in which it was created.

This is an axe head found in New Ireland. It was recently tested by an engineer in Olean, N.Y. and found to be 130 years old. This would mean that it could have been used by the original families that settled in New Ireland.
