BaseBall

Immediately following Easter vacation, the 1939 baseball season got under way. Practice was held every afternoon and gradually the team rounded into shape. We had a good pitching staff and the team was playing fine ball until we were forced to forfeit all our games except two. Some of the players had played on the town team, which was contrary to the rules of our league. It was a tough break but the players hope to make up for it this year.

The 1940 baseball team looks forward to a good season. Most of the old players together with some new men are expected to report this spring for practice. Players expected to report this year are:

Gordon Williams, Richard O'Brien, Charles Whitmer, Joe Ward, Wesley Smith, Wilfred Eastman, Richard Hintz, Edward Jedrzejek, Robert Frank, Neil Albright, Arnold Ehman, Gordon Blendinger, James Baldwin, Robert Slating, Charles Oyler, Lee Morehouse, James Krieger, James Taylor, and Howard Albright.

Tennis

The Ellicottville High School will be represented by a tennis team this year. John "Sam" Ellis, a former county singles champion, will be the coach. Some of the players who are expected to come out for the team are Charles Cox, William Lowry, Robert Marsh, Kenneth Junker, John Balasis, and several others. There will be five regular players: First singles, first doubles, second doubles, and some substitutes will probably be kept on hand for emergencies. Probable opponents will be Gowanda, Randolph, Cattaraugus, and Salamanca.
